In short: Mac Brilliance works on your own Mac. Your files and what the app finds stay on your Mac. We only keep what we need to send you your licence key: your name, your email address and your order details.

Privacy Policy

This policy explains how équilibre k.k., Soft Town Minami-Aoyama 507, 6-13-4 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo 107-0062, Japan ("équilibre", "we") handles personal information in connection with the Mac Brilliance app and its website. We follow Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) and, for customers in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. What stays on your Mac

Mac Brilliance scans, scores and cleans your Mac locally. The names, sizes and contents of your files, your list of apps, your settings and your history of checks are processed and stored only on your Mac. The app has no user account and sends none of this information to us or to anyone else.

2. What we receive when you buy

Order and contact details: your name, email address, country, the amount paid and the order references created by our payment provider.
Your licence key: the key we create for you, which contains your email address and name so the app can show who it is licensed to.

We never see or store your card number. Payments are handled by Stripe, which acts as the reseller of Mac Brilliance (merchant of record) and takes care of payment, taxes and receipts. Stripe processes your payment details under its own privacy policy.

3. Why we use it

to send you your licence key and answer your questions (performance of our contract with you);
to handle refunds under our 30-day guarantee and keep accounting records (legal obligations);
to prevent misuse of licence keys (legitimate interest).

We send you emails about your purchase only. We will ask your permission before sending any newsletter or offer.

4. Who helps us

Stripe (payment and resale, United States and Ireland)
Supabase (secure storage of licence records, hosted in Tokyo, Japan)
Resend (sending the licence email, United States)

These providers act on our instructions and protect your data with appropriate safeguards, including standard contractual clauses for transfers outside the European Union or Japan. We never sell your personal information.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your order and licence records for as long as your licence is valid and for up to 7 years after purchase to meet Japanese accounting and tax requirements. After that, we delete them.

6. Your rights

You may ask us to show, correct, export or delete your personal information, or to stop using it, by writing to macbrilliance@e-quilibre.jp. We answer within 30 days. If you are in the European Union, you may also contact your local data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).

7. The website

This website uses no advertising or tracking cookies. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address when the page loads.

8. Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above, and for important changes we will tell customers by email.

Terms of Use

These terms apply to your use of Mac Brilliance, published by équilibre k.k. By installing or buying the app, you accept them.

1. Free scan and licence

You may download Mac Brilliance and use its scan, score and advice for free. Buying a licence (a one-time purchase) unlocks the actions that clean, move or remove items. A licence is personal and may be used on up to 3 Macs that you own or use. You may not resell, share publicly or publish your licence key.

2. Price and payment

The price is shown on the website before you pay, including applicable taxes. Payment is collected by Stripe as reseller. Your licence key is sent by email within a few minutes of payment.

3. 30-day money-back guarantee

If Mac Brilliance is not right for you, write to macbrilliance@e-quilibre.jp within 30 days of purchase and we will refund you in full. Your licence key will then be deactivated. This guarantee is in addition to your legal rights. Customers in the European Union: by asking for your licence key to be sent right away, you agree that delivery starts immediately; our 30-day guarantee still applies.

4. Your files and your decisions

Mac Brilliance always shows you what it suggests and acts only after you confirm. Your files are moved to the Trash first so you can put them back. App caches, logs and similar temporary data, which apps rebuild by themselves, are cleared directly. Emptying the Trash, when you choose it, is permanent. In cloud folders (such as Dropbox or iCloud Drive), removing an item also removes it from the cloud, your other devices and shared folders; the app warns you before you confirm. You remain responsible for the choices you confirm. We recommend keeping a backup of your Mac (for example with Time Machine).

5. Updates and compatibility

Mac Brilliance runs on macOS 12 Monterey or later. Your licence includes the updates we publish for the current major version. We may improve or change features over time.

6. Intellectual property

Mac Brilliance, its design, the NEXUS character and the Mac Brilliance name belong to équilibre k.k. You receive a right to use the app, and no other rights. Mac and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. Mac Brilliance is an independent product and is not affiliated with Apple.

7. Warranty and liability

We take great care to make Mac Brilliance safe and reliable. To the extent permitted by law, the app is provided as it is, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your rights as a consumer.

8. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, and the Tokyo District Court has jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence and may bring a claim there. We are always happy to find a solution together first: please write to us.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. The version in force on the date of your purchase applies to that purchase.
